‘Jewellery Ice’ is a natural phenomenon which can be observed in Toyokoro town, Tokachi area, East Hokkaido. It occurs when the bright sunlight shines on the blocks of ice washed up on the shore. The pure, clear transparency of the ice blocks makes them look like shining jewels lying on the beach.
Take a walk among the beautiful clusters of ‘Jewellery Ice’ to capture some amazing photographs of this natural phenomenon.
The best viewing time is from mid-January to the end of February, depending on the weather conditions. Make sure to dress well as the temperature can drop to -20 Celsius in the early morning.
