Lake Shikaribetsu is located in the Daisetsu National Park, Hokkaido’s largest national park, located in Central Hokkaido. When the water freezes over during the winter, you can still enjoy the natural hot spring – right on the frozen lake.
The ‘Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan’ special event features a small man-made village with a number of icy attractions such as igloo houses, an ice bar and of course, hot springs. If bathing in the open hot spring is not for you, why not try soaking your icy cold feet in the comforting foot hot spring (foot spa) and enjoy the view.
The village opens from late-January to late-March, depending on weather conditions.
